On June 5, 2026, Aquinas College of Higher Studies held a memorable diploma awarding ceremony to celebrate forty-five religious sisters’ successful completion of the Diploma in Child Care, Protection, and Reintegration. The sisters serve in the child care sector across Sri Lanka.
Catholic Care for Children Sri Lanka (CCCSL) developed the diploma program in response to the growing need to strengthen the professional knowledge, practical skills, and capacities of religious women engaged in the care and protection of children. It was designed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of childcare, child protection, reintegration processes, and ongoing childcare reforms in Sri Lanka.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in academic study, practical learning experiences, and critical reflection on contemporary child care practices.
The curriculum covered topics such as child rights and protection, child development, alternative care systems, case management and reintegration, national and international legal frameworks on child rights, institutional mechanisms related to child protection, and policies governing child care and alternative care services in Sri Lanka.
The diploma provided valuable opportunities for participants to deepen their understanding of the challenges facing children and families and strengthen their ability to respond effectively in residential and community care settings. The program also contributed to building a more professional, child-centered approach to care in line with national and international standards.
The awards ceremony marked the culmination of months of dedication, perseverance, and commitment by the participants. It celebrated academic achievement and recognized the Sisters’ dedication to caring for children.
This milestone reflects the shared commitment to promoting the dignity, well-being, and rights of every child. It also highlights the important role of religious sisters in supporting child protection, strengthening family-based care, and contributing to the ongoing transformation of child care services in Sri Lanka.
As the graduates return to their ministries, they carry enhanced knowledge, renewed confidence, and a deeper commitment to ensuring every child experiences care, protection, and opportunities to flourish.
