Catholic Care for Children in Uganda

Catholic Care for Children in Uganda is an initiative of the Association of Religious in Uganda. The association represents 99 religious institutes with 6,000 Sisters, Brothers, and Priests. Over 40 care locations and programs are part of the Catholic Care for Children project in Uganda which began in 2016. The initiative seeks to strengthen religious institutes with a charism of care, with religious becoming champions of child care reform and improving outcomes for children living outside of family care.

An estimated 50,000 children in Uganda live in child care institutions. However, more than two-thirds of these children have at least one living parent or relative. The main reason for placing children in institutional care is poverty.
